Ease of use wise the Citycom is about as good as it gets for a full size scooter. There’s a large under seat storage area that will actually fit a full face helmet, wet weather clothes and a Peruvian mountain cucumber. The only issue is the full face helmet needs to be no larger than a medium. If you’ve got a large or extra large sized head you’re toast, it won’t fit. This is fair as people with heads like the Deathstar need to be inconvenienced, they deserve it, I mean who wants a head like a space station. Up front there’s a lockable glove box and a nice set of very clear gauges. Given the bikes size and weight I was expecting poor fuel economy but was pleasantly surprised to return 65MPG.

The bad bits. There aren’t many to be fair but I’ll list what I did come up with. The biggest problem with the Citycom is it’s so darn comfortable and effortless to ride that you may fall asleep, crash and die a horrible death. Hardly a real problem as you’ll be dead. The screen is poorly designed and really needs to be taller or shaped differently as it seems to just accelerate air directly at your cranium. This is not where air should be directed. The seat height is a little on the tall side for shorter riders and combined with the bikes weight can make it a pain to move around. That's 'bout it.

Summing up the SYM Citycom 300i. SYM have done a simply superb job with this scooter. It really is one of the best value for money full size scooters on the market. If you’re unfamiliar with SYM then you needn’t worry at all. They are a large Taiwanese company that have been making very high quality bikes for many years. In fact, some of the best scooters of all come out of Taiwan these days. If you’re looking for a serious full sized scooter to do all manner of commuting and even long distance riding, this is very much the bike you need to test ride first. I’m praying SYM will give us one as a long term bike. If they don’t, maybe I’ll just black mail Bob…I do have these photos of him…

Is it true that SYM and Suzuki share the same factory?
So the SYMs (not SIMS :p) have the same technical factory as the Suzuki?

I bought the SYM Citycom 300i a few months ago and I LOVE THIS BIKE! I can't say I'd change a thing about it. It is the smoothest ride: the perfect combination of a larger, long-trip motorcycle and a smaller round-town commuter bike.

I bought one about 6 months ago at Red Baron's sale for under $6k with six months reg. Done over 4000km now. I ride it over the habour bridge most days. You can buy an alternative larger screen from USA. I ought a rear rack for a top box to get more storage. The performance and economy and build quality are great , especially for the money makes this the very best scooter I have owned (my ninth, mostly Piaggio[Vespa) . I am very happy with the seat as I am 5'5" and it works very well for the shorter legs. The angle might not work so well for the taller. Very highly recommended

I just got an Xmas card from select scootas who import SYM Scooters. The CityCom300i has a list price of $6990 aud. Up quite a bit since this review was posted. I make this comment judged against the NZ price quoted.

Hi Pual, I also live in Christchurch, can you please tell me where the Citycom is available to buy in Christchurch. I've just bought a Lifan LF50QT-2A for getting to work, its a good bike but I want to get a bigger Scooter to ride two up so looking at a Lifan LF250T-6B or the SYM Citycom 300 please help...

I followed your advice to the tee. Walked into the shop and said "give that scoot to me!", which they did. That was about 3 weeks and 1400kms ago. Loving it. Did a 340kms trip (6 hours) from Christchurch, New Zealand via Arthur's Pass to Otira Gorge, no problems. Sat at an 120km/h on the speedo, 107 km/h GPS verified for most of the way. MPG so far is an average of 79mpg. You can read up about it here:

Very pleased to read this review. Found the site by a search on the SYM Orbit (not so sweet). I am a first time rider on a SYM HD200 (also a tall wheeled scooter). Many of the qualities of the 300i ring true for it. All be it a lighter and of course less expensive scooter. It could be compared to the Honda 150i. Anyhow less than one month into it, and in Winter, I am in Melbourne Australia, I am loving it. I can see trading up to a 300i or the Honda 300 on the cards one day. I really enjoy your comments Ketzal. And both my parents who rode a motorcycle and scooters in the 50's 60's (in England) say the HD200 is a motorbike not a little scooter. Must be the 16 inch wheels. I would be very interested to read your view on the SYM HD200 one day. I guess I think it is a one of the best in its class.

I'm about to buy some scooter in this range and I'm in doubt! Since I'm writing from Croatia, here just came out the new TGB X-motion 250 EFI and I'm not sure if you had a chance to drive it or see it, but I'd be very happy if you could say is it batter than Sym Citycom or not?!?

Had my new 300i for a month now. I love it, it handles like a dream and I like the seat too. My only niggle is the fact that the MPH figures on the dash are too small as opposed to the KM. I will put up with this though as a, I have no choice, and b, its a small price to pay as so much more is right with the scooter. Well done SYM.

I am an owner of a new 300i and I must say you are right on the money, it is a very nice and comfortable bike the only thing I can say is the seat is in an angle that is not so great but one can change it easy in any fabric crafts men and the fearing I am thinking of remove it
