Zuma 125

Yamaha Zuma 125cc

Yamaha have added a big brother to the staple 50cc Zuma for the USA 2009 model year. The 125cc version is very much a progression from the 50cc model. The twin headlamps remain which can only be a good

thing. A more visible tubular steel frame has been added along with brush guards on the handle bars. This particular addition strikes me as somewhat peculiar... I could be wrong but how likely is anyone to go on some sort of off road adventure on a 125cc scooter... really! More than likely they will just get in the way as is the case with the ones on the PGO PMX.

This will I imagine be a good seller for Yamaha, with the reputation already built by it's 50cc sibling the somewhat unusual styling is now more common place and the 4 stroke engine should provide reasonable economy. Good on Yamaha for releasing a 125cc bike for the US market... It will be interesting to see how it fares against the likes of the Genuine Buddy 125 et al.

One review suggested that the off road look on the Zuma 125 was useless because no one would ride a Zuma off road. Well hello mr. wrong review expert!! I have ridden my 50 Zuma off road for two years and 800 miles. I took it places............well let's just say I shouldn't have taken it in those places. It is an amazing off road scooter. I usually have to wait for my buddy that rides a 110 Honda trail bike. He's always losing it trying to find the right gear. This week I will be moving up with a new purchase of a 125 Zuma. By the way, Just as a side note, I purchased my Zuma 50 used for $1,400 and sold it two years later for $1,200, great resale value. I can hardly wait for winter to pass so I can take my new Zuma 125 up camping and on the trails! My daily on street ride is a Suzuki 650 Burgman scooter, but I know I will enjoy riding my 125 Zuma just as much....OFF ROAD!!

I have 1300 miles on my yellow zuma 125: and one theft and recovery by some awsome Baltimore cops. I do all the maintenance myself as i am a helicopter mechanic. This scooter is built very well with ease of maintenance. My fiancee and i go everywere down town and its her favorite dates. I love the machine.

After searching different scooter models/brands, I decided to get a Zuma 125. My decision was solidified after every comment I read about it being good to AWESOME. So today I went down to my local motorsports dealer and picked one up, and man am I glad I did. This is my first scooter and it is SOOO much fun. I just filled up my tank for 4 bucks, how can you beat that? I feel safe in traffic because I can keep up with cars, heck sometimes I pass them! If you are considering buying a scooter like I was 3 hours ago, get off your haunches and go get a Yamaha Zuma 125!!!

I have had my zuma 125 for 800 miles, and i agree the scooter feels handles like a motorcycle. Great on gas and i no longer feel really unsafe like i did on a 50cc. The Zuma has the power and acceleration to get you out of unsafe situations. I enjoy riding this scooter feels like a MC, lots of fun. Some drivers get angry that I can pass them on a scooter!!!!! I thought it was expensive but well worth it, best purchase i have made this year.. Get one you will not be dissapointed.

I've had a Zuma 125 for about four months now and have put about 1000 miles on it. Before that I had a Vino 125 for about two years and 3000 miles. I absolutely LOVE the Zuma 125. I actually speed up for roundablouts - I can just fly through them. Handling suspension, power are all orders of magnitude better than the Vino or the Kymcos I've ridden. It feels like a motorcycle when you're on it, and it works for two riding, unlike the Vino. Go buy one!

I just put 300 miles on my new Zuma 125, and lovin every minute of it! Last tank got 135 mi. from 1.48 gal. of gas. That's like 90mpg! I've had it on the highway, and was hitting 62mph. I added the optional windshield (we got lots of bugs out here!) and lost about 5mph due to that. I'm still loving the ride and having lots of fun on it. We have a lot of gravel and chip n seal roads here, and it rides really nice with those big tires. I've ridden many bikes and scooters, and this is the most fun so far.

I owned a Honda Elite 80 and this blows it out of the water in every way. Much smoother, faster, more durable-the Honda's tubed tires were blowing out constantly, the tires on the Zuma appear indestructable. I also tried a Vespa; the Zuma's the best scooter of it's size on the market.

How does it ride. I currently own a Honda Elite 80cc and want to upgrade to the Zuma 125. My Honda is smooth ride even on bumpy city streets. I've ridden the Vino 125 and that is a rough ride in comparison to my Honda. You have to hang on tight when you hit a bump and hope nothing falls of the scooter because it sounds like it just took a beating from a small pot hole (referring to the Vino 125).

I have just got my Zuma 125. After looking for different options I ended up buying this scooter, since i am also a first time rider it is always a good option to buy some extended waranty with mechanical service included. Well I got a good deal at the dealer in Chicago. I have rode the scooter not even 50 miles yet and I love it. It is really a good deal. Its boddy and confort are the best.

Mine had a 600 mile service, and already had 2 oil changes.
Before this Zuma I had a Vino 125 for years. The Zuma is in a different liga. It is way faster better fuel economy and start less then a second. More comfort for a passanger too.
You will never fine a better scoot in the 125 category. A bit expensive 3 grand but by the time you roll out one from dealer close to 4 grand. Yeh the first service cost was $180. For my Toyota FJ the first service was $110. You better learn how to change oil.

i just picked up one of these and it is absolutely fantastic. after trying out the buddy, kymco, and lance scooters, this thing is by far a way better machine. it has a more substantial feel to it. it's solid. more metal less platic. i can see where people maybe put off by the aesthetic, it's minimal and ruggedized, not dressed up and pretty with pastel colored rounded panels. it's simple, straight up no fuss. i wish i could've tried an aprilia but they're so difficult to find in my area and they're way to expensive. to me the zuma is unbeatable product for the price. look at what you get discs, efi, good trunk, big wheels, bright lights, and many many parts for modification. oh and it can run on e10!!!

The "brush guard" comment above misses one critical reason that they could be on the handlebars and that is to keep the hands warm. Directing the flow of air around hands (gloved or not) can make a huge difference in comfort on cold mornings. As a snowmobile rider, I put brush guards on all of my sleds for that reason more than anything else.

I ride a Canadian counterpart; a Yamaha Vino 125. Superb Scooter for first time buyer. Other than Honda, the only available scooter dealer in my area is Yamaha. Not much choice, if you need service. The KYMCO line up was my second choice

Coming to Australia?
How does anyone think it may compare to Aprilia's Sportcity 125?
(New rider, first time buyer, looking for reasonably priced, quality, a bit of zip - Aprilia a bit out of the price range).
Thanks, Matt B
