Kymco 300's |
So for 2010 Kymco are really hitting the 300cc class with some punch. The reign of the Honda SH300 as THE midsize machine to own has been long and deserved. Most companies have had a punt at this market but not too many have got it quite right with engines that need just a bit more power. Kymco have now addressed this problem with not one but two 300cc models. Â Â I'm not talking 270cc either, actual, genuine 299cc beasts putting out a claimed 30hp, this is 3 more than the venerable Honda, so the engine is now to be found in the 2010 versions of the People GT300i and the Super Dink (Downtown for some) 300. Both models seem to feature the now standard build quality (good!) we expect of Kymco along with some fantastic styling. I can't wait to see them down here... either way Kymco... hand them over so we can give them a damn good thrashing and see if the numbers stack up... it is a big call but we may finally have a worthy adversary for the mighty SH300i.

I have a SYM CityCom 300i which I bought fbecause I could not get a Honda SH300i. A one year old one of only 2 in NZ came up at over $9k with about 8000 kms. I Bought the SYM brand new for under $6k discounted at a sale mid 2009. These 16" wheel scooters with over 250cc motors are great. Honda is clearly great but the SYM is fantastic value for money, great economy and fine build quality. Been much more reliable than previous (italian built) Piaggios. This Kymco 300, if it gets to NZ, could be a hit and would be a contender for my next scooter.

I've owned two Kymcos (150 & 250) and I think they will do well by competing in the 300cc range. While the 250cc scooters can ride the freeway, they would do better with the little extra oomph from the extra horsepower of a 300cc.
