I know absolutely nothing about this particular print ad... other than it is for Vespa, obviously... and looks like it is probably from somewhere in the USA. I can't even tell you when it was printed... the style is a bit 1990's... but looking at a few of the cars in the pic I would suspect it is a bit more recent than that. Anyone have any more information... When or where the ad appeared? Where it was taken? Anything?
Either way... the idea is genius, some clever ad person did a damn fine job of compressing all that is right with riding a scooter into one photo. They say a picture is worth a thousand words... this one has to be worth 1006!
The classic Vespa scooter, which came to symbolise Mod rebellion in Britain, has been scrapped after falling foul of European Union emissions rules.
The iconic Vespa scooter has been axed after EU chiefs ruled it was not eco-friendly. The company will stop production of the PX model — a cult bike for Mods — as the two-stroke engine does not fall within emissions guidelines.
Australian based Vmoto recently released a press release with an instantly interesting (to me at least) second paragraph that reads "Two revolutionary Hybrid motor scooters... Set to transform two wheeled motorised transport globally."
Now I am a big fan of revolutionary technology, and the idea of a standard sized (read not MP3 style) hybid scooter sounded like a damn good idea to me.
I have given up reporting and passing on the hundreds of tidbits I see about how people are beating the fuel crunch by getting a scooter etc etc. However This story pretty much sums it up... with some numbers to back the opinion. According to the "Powersports Business" Magazine,"New Unit" sales are down by 8% since mid 2007 ATV and Off Road bikes dropped 23.4% and 19.7 % respectively. There was however a significant rise of 24.3% in the "Dual Purpose" sector... so people are exchanging urban tractors (SUV's) for... well 2 wheeled urban tractors?
